The legal and licensing problems for an abortion doctor spread into Delaware for Dr. Kermit Gosnell.
Fox 29’s Dave Schratwieser says the Delaware state board of medical practice has notified Gosnell that he must appear at that emergency session of the board Tuesday afternoon, at which time the suspension of his license to practice medicine will be discussed and ruled on.
Gosnell is licensed in Delaware and until last week practiced part time at a women’s clinic in Wilmington.
Officials there now say the doctor no longer works there because his license to practice medicine had been suspended in Pennsylvania after his offices on Lancaster Avenue were raided by Philadelphia, state and federal investigators.
Gosnell is under investigation by city officials in connection with the death of a woman back in November after an abortion at his West Philadelphia clinic.
The district attorney and the medical examiner are also looking into the discovery of two dozen frozen fetuses found at Gosnell's office. They are trying to determine if those were the result of illegal late term abortions.
Law enforcement sources also tell Fox 29 they seized more than $200,000 in cash at the doctors home after a search there.
Now the FBI and the DEA are also investigating whether Gosnell's clinic allegedly distributed prescription drugs illegally.
Sources tell Fox 29 that part of this widening investigation could be completed sooner than the other two phases of this probe.
Delaware could discipline Gosnell or temporarily suspend his license like Pennsylvania. He would then be given a full-blown hearing on the issues before the board.
Delaware authorities have been made aware of the doctor’s suspension in Pennsylvania and the allegations against him.
