The closing of dozens of Philadelphia archdiocese schools on Friday marks an historic change in local education.
The combination of Archdiocese schools and private schools that operate with the Archdiocese's blessing has produced generations of leaders.

The alumni from these schools form an impressive list, ranging from political leaders to entertainers to religious leaders.
The system in Philadelphia as producers Cardinals (Foley and O'Connor), political leaders (Michael Nutter, Joe Sestak, Mike Fitzpatrick, Alexander Haig, Mark Schwieker), athletes (Tom Gola, John Cappelletti, Frank Wycheck) and entertainers (Maria Bello, David Boreanaz, Rob McElhenney).
Other alumni include Space Shuttle commander Christopher Ferguson, TV pundit Chris Matthews, golf course designer Tom Fazio, actor Peter Boyle, and sports host Jim McKay.
