PHILADELPHIA - Federal Prosecutors in Philadelphia got the green light Monday to appeal the 55-month sentence given convicted state Sen. Vincent Fumo.
Dave Schratwieser reports that this move could touch off a big “legal back and forth.”
Fumo was sentenced last July by Judge Ronald Buckwater to 55 months in prison. Fumo is currently holed up in a Kentucky jail cell serving his time.
The sentence drew immediate criticism from prosecutors when it was imposed, saying it was too lenient.
Prosecutors are now expected to file their appeal next week. This will no doubt touch off a series of legal maneuvers and months of appeals from both sides.
