PHILADELPHIA - Fox 29 has learned the Inspector General of the School District of Philadelphia is investigating Estelle Matthews, the Chief Talent Development Officer in the school system.
It is unclear tonight the status of Matthews, who was a close confidant of former School Superintendent Arlene Ackerman.
A source with knowledge of the investigation says Estelle Matthews left the District building last night and is not expected to return to her position.
Fox 29 has been told the Inspector General's Investigation focuses on allegations that Matthews approved pay raises and promotions for several workers in the District apparently without the knowledge of school officials.
A source tells Fox 29, investigators are looking at two positions in the District, held by Matthews' son, that he may not have been qualified for.
A man, who identified himself as her husband, would not answer questions this afternoon at her home and said "she was sleeping."
A School District spokesperson says he can not provide comment on the matter.
