ICE Agreement With City: Should It End?

Philadelphia’s Mayor and District Attorney are still debating whether to continue to allow the feds to see the names of people arrested.

The city’s immigrant community is very upset and want to see this arrangement between Philly police and Federal police to stop.

Yesterday Sharon Crowley reported that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for the last year, has had a deal with the city police. ICE can look at the names on preliminary arrest reports.

Mayor Nutter would like the deal with ICE to end. The D.A’s office is not quite on the same page.

Today, Sharon spoke to some people in the immigrant community who fear this could lead to innocent people being deported.

Talks about whether to extend this deal will continue throughout the summer.

The city’s contract with ICE ends August 31st.
