Nike founder Phil Knight ripped the Penn State trustees and former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky at a memorial for Joe Paterno.
Knight said the real villain of the Penn State scandal was not Paterno, but the people in the “heart of the investigation.”
He also asked “who is real trustee at Penn State university?”
“He gave full disclosure to his superiors, information that went up the chain of the campus police, the president of the school.” Knight said. “The matter was in the hands of a world class university.”
“There is a villain in this tragedy, it lies in that investigation, not in Joe Paterno’s response to it,” Knight said to a huge ovation.
Knight said Paterno never complained after the scandal broke, despite his failing health.
