The official number of people who entered the main doorway was 6,353 when the event ended at 2:30 p.m.
The lines were around the Wachovia Center and back to the Spectrum for the first part of the event.
Fox 29’s Michelle Buckman said lines started forming at 7:30 a.m., well before the doors opened at 10 a.m.
With national unemployment at 10 percent, the demand for jobs was open and apparent at the job far.
“I’m trying to find a job,” Vernell Mapp told Fox 29. “Right now!”
Another hopeful, Wanda Taylor, said she was hoping to speak to a recruiter or employer in person. “I feel good about today.”
“You can tell times got tough out there and construction almost came to a halt,” Tony Zubia. “There’s not much going on.”
Most people had a positive attitude and were looking to make a good impression.
