PHILADELPHIA - The best way to help the Haitian earthquake victims is through monetary donations.
Aid relief organizations are on the ground in the Caribbean nation, which is one of the poorest in the Western Hemisphere.
On Jan. 19, FOX 29 and partners Greater Media Philadelphia and SEPTA were joined by American Red Cross representatives to collect monetary donations at four major commuter centers during the morning and evening rush hours. Thank you for your generous contributions, as more than $40,000 was raised.
And you can still act. Here are links to national and local organizations FOX 29 News has featured on air that are accepting donations for quake victims:
Text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts.
You can also call 1-800-REDCROSS, or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish), or mail donations to: American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013
ABOVE ALL, BE SAFE WHEN DONATING:
Visit Charity Navigator, Give.org, or GuideStar.org to check up on charities before sending your money.
