Police ID Holmesburg Sidewalk Slaying Victim

Investigators Trying To Find 22-Year-Old's Family

PHILADELPHIA - New details are emerging about a deadly shooting that happened over the weekend in Philadelphia's Holmesburg section.

Police now say the victim was a 22-year-old man and they know who he is, but they've been unable to locate his family, so they cannot release his name.

People who live near the crime scene said they heard most of the violence early Sunday morning, including five or six shots fired and some screaming.

Police arrived on the 7900 block of Craig Street around 2 a.m. to find the victim lying on the ground dead beside a car. He was shot multiple times, including one time to the head.

Homicide detectives said the young man – originally described as being as young as 16 and Hispanic – did not have any identification on him.

While no one in the neighborhood recognized the man, they said the pain is just the same. It's still a life lost. The victim's blood still stained the pavement at the crime scene Monday morning.

Sharon Stone, who lives doors away, said she heard what happened and there was no doubt the victim suffered.

"When they rolled him over, he had a bullet hole in his back, a bullet hole in his groin, a bullet hole in his temple, and one in the top and one in the back of his head," Stone said. "I just felt like that's got to be a horrible thing to know you're going to die because I'm sure the first two shots didn't kill him, because he screamed. After those first two shots, I think they definitely stood over him and just popped him in the head to make sure that he was done.

"I just felt really bad," she added. "I just wanted to go over and kneel next to him and say a prayer or something. You know, I just felt bad."

Meanwhile, investigators said they have very limited information to work with on this case. They know the suspects got away in a car but they do not have a description of what kind.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Philadelphia police.
