Proposed 'Super Wawa' Facing Opposition

Controversy tonight in Camden County, NJ. People there are going against a popular ad campaign and saying "They don't want to have a Wawa."

They're upset about plans to build a Wawa location on Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill right across the street from the mall. Normally a planning commission meeting wouldn't get much attention but tonight the project being debated is causing uproar. Local convenience store giant Wawa and local residents facing off tonight over a proposed super Wawa story that's facing some very vocal opposition.

If Wawa has its way Maureen Romano's son's bedroom would be just feet away from a new Wawa store. Not to mention feet away from the traffic and noise that comes with it.

As Wawa planners made their pitch for a new super store on Haddonfield Road would be neighbors a dozen who live less than 200 feet of the site are rattling off a laundry list of issues the new story would bring.

Then there are the safety concerns. After requesting crash reports neighbors say when the old Toyota dealership was opened traffic accidents skyrocketed.

But neighbors know they're fighting a big corporation with lots of money. But are hoping their voice is heard.
