Report Details Why Kids Drop Out

PHILADELPHIA - The group Youth United for Change released Thursday a unique report in Philadelphia written by kids who dropped out of school.

The report says that only 57 percent of public school students in Philadelphia graduate within four years.

The students who put the report together say kids drop out for a number of reasons, including being bored, not connecting with their teachers, having problems at home, or getting in big trouble with the school district for a minor infraction.

They talked about why it's so important for students to finish high school.

The dropout report also found that minority students were more likely to drop out.

Youth United for Change is dedicated to keep students in school by promoting alternative education, experiential learning and building better relationships between students and teachers.

That report was conducted entirely by students who say they were pushed out of the school system.

Fox 29's Thomas Drayton spoke with Ebony Baylis, who is not only trying to turn her life around but the lives of so many students who have dropped out.
