Residents In NJ Township Get A Property Tax Hike

Residents in one New Jersey Township are up in arms after watching their property values skyrocket. They say they have done nothing to their homes or property to warrant the hike. Now homeowners worry they won't be able to afford the higher taxes that come with it. It's affecting residents in Upper Deerfield Township in Cumberland County, New Jersey.

You want your home to gain value but you want the growth at a pace you can afford. Notices started going out last week leaving residents with more questions than answers. Property revaluations are landing in mailboxes and home owners are suffering serious sticker shock.

Roy Spoltore a township administrator says it was 17 years ago the last time homes here were re-assessed. He says people who have upgraded their homes without proper permits and the township is now catching up to them.

If you got a revaluation you don't agree with you can make an appointment with the company doing the assessments and you have until May first to file an appeal.
