(MYFOX NATIONAL) - After receiving their yearbooks, high school students in Ohio discovered a hidden obscenity that was not caught by school administrators. Hidden on the cover of the Shaker Heights High School yearbook is a scribble in the artwork that when turned upside reveals a message.

"You have to turn it upside down and then it is right there," said student Katie Rownd to WJW .

Last week after the obscenity was discovered Principal Michael Griffith wrote a letter to students and their families explaining that distribution of the yearbook had been suspended because "an obscenity was cleverly concealed in the cover artwork."

The principal's letter included a note by the student that was responsible for the cover artwork and hidden words. "I cannot begin to explain the miserable feeling I brought upon myself, when I betrayed the trust of all of you. I apologize for offending anyone and everyone. It is unfortunate that I did not recognize the big responsibility and honor given to me when asked to design the cover of the Shaker Heights yearbook. I offer my sincere apologies."

The yearbooks are being changed to conceal the offending word.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer , the student was forgiven by the rest of the student body. At the Shaker graduation ceremony last Thursday, the student artist received the loudest, most sustained applause of any fellow student as he accepted his diploma.

Another student at Fort Walton Beach High School in Florida also pranked her yearbook by posting an obscenity . Her parents had to pay for stickers to cover the offending word.
