Poll: Specter's Primary Support Slips

Incumbent Still Trails Toomey In General Polling

PHILADELPHIA - New Rasmussen Reports polling shows that, for the third month in a row, likely Republican nominee Pat Toomey holds a nine-point lead over incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate race.

According to a Rasmussen poll released first to Fox 29 News, a telephone survey of likely voters in Pennsylvania shows Toomey leading Specter 49 to 40 percent. Five percent said they like some other candidate. Seven percent are undecided.

Another Rasmussen poll released first to Fox 29 shows support for Specter has fallen below 50 percent this month in the Democratic primary, but he still holds an 11-point lead over Congressman Joe Sestak.

A statewide telephone survey of likely Democratic primary voters shows Specter leading Sestak 48 to 37 percent. Five percent would prefer some other candidate. Nine percent say they're undecided.
