Christine O’Donnell: Stuck On Stupid?

Veteran political experts Eleanor Dezzi (Democrat) and Renee Amoore (Republican) agree on one thing: they can’t figure out Republican senate hopeful Christine O’Donnell.

Both political strategists were on Fox 29”s Good Day program and came away with three conclusions:

O’Donnell makes a lot of controversial statements, she does a good job of spinning the statements and voter turnout will be the key if she has a chance of beating Chris Coons.

Beyond that, Amoore and Dezzi remain puzzled by O’Donnell’s debate statements and tactics.

On Tuesday, O’Donnell repeatedly questioned if the Constitution separated church and state in a debate at Widener Law School, and later clarified her statements to say she was questioning popular portrayals of the exact language in the constitution.

“She knew how to spin in,” said Amoore about the statements, which drew incredulous laughs from law students in the debate audience.

“At this point, people really don’t know how to take her. Is she serious? Is she messing around? Or is she stuck on stupid? They really don’t know what’s going on,” said Amoore.

Dezzi said she was stunned that O’Donnell didn’t appear to know the basics about the constitution.

“There are some issues there,” Amore admitted. “She needs to be clear about what she says.”

O’Donnell’s stance on evolution also stumps the strategists.

O’Donnell was asked if she believed in the theory of evolution last week by Wolf Blitzer and she would not answer the question.

“Because she really doesn’t know,” said Amoore, the Republican.

“At this point, I’m not sure either,” Amoore said about O’Donnell’s campaign and her debate performance. “It was really embarrassing. Let’s be clear, it was really embarrassing, we have to be honest.”

“She really made a mistake and they tried to spin it,” Amoore added.

Amoore thinks it still could be a close race, while Dezzi thinks O’Donnell will lose “by buckets.”

But Amoore says it is all about voter turnout, which helped O’Donnell beat Mike Castle in the GOP primary.
