PHILADELPHIA - There was some surprising news Wednesday in the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary contest set for next spring.
Our latest Rasmussen Reports poll shows Congressman Joe Sestak has pulled to within four percentage points of incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter.
Back in the spring, Specter – a longtime Republican – changed his party affiliation, got immediate support from the White House, and raced to a huge lead over Sestak in the early polling.
Aided by President Barack Obama, Specter maintains a significant fundraising advantage over his likely GOP rival.
The Republican-turned-Democrat Specter reported Wednesday that he raised $1.8 million in the fundraising quarter that ended Sept. 30 and he now has $8.7 million in cash.
Republican candidate Pat Toomey, a former congressman, has said he raised more than $1.5 million in the recent quarter and has raised a total of more than $3 million.
Sestak has yet to release his fundraising totals for the recent quarter. At the end of the previous quarter, he reported having $4 million.
