Lazarus Wins Pa. Superior Court Recount

HARRISBURG, Pa. - A statewide recount of ballots confirms that Anne Lazarus, a county judge in Philadelphia, is the winner of a hotly contested open seat on the state Superior Court.

A photo-finish among four candidates triggered Pennsylvania's automatic recount law for the first time, and ballots had to be doublechecked in all 67 counties.

Totals announced Tuesday by Secretary of State Pedro Cortes showed Lazarus beat her closest competitor by 2,087 votes. She was the only Democrat among the four winning candidates for Superior Court.

The other winners were Allegheny County Judge Judy Olson, Tioga County lawyer Sallie Mundy and Chester County Judge Paula Ott -- all Republicans.
