CAMDEN, N.J. - With their feet to the fire, the Delaware River Port Authority has taken some steps toward change. But is it enough?
Fox 29's Steve Keeley reported after Wednesday's big board of commissioners meeting that, according to sources, FBI agents are now talking to DRPA employees.
The federal investigation has been under way for about a month now, sources told Keeley.
So far, we haven't seen anyone carting boxes out of the DRPA's headquarters at One Port Center in Camden.
Keeley reported that he can't say what specifically agents have been asking about because doing so could reveal a couple of sources to people in the DRPA or FBI.
DRPA Chairman John Estey joined "Good Day" on Thursday morning and said he was not aware of any federal investigation.
Fox 29 and other journalists have been leading the charge to find out exactly how the DRPA is spending your money, and why the agency is talking about another toll hike.
At Wednesday's meeting, DRPA commissioners approved opening up the authority's books to regular audits, complying with open-record laws, ending closed-door sessions, and banning no-bid contracts as well as the hiring of family members of employees.
The board delayed action on eliminating some executive positions and on maintaining toll discounts for regular commuters, senior citizens, and hybrid car drivers.
There will be another meeting to discuss those issues this coming Wednesday.
Commissioner John Dougherty called for eliminating the delayed-but-still-scheduled toll hike and restoring a senior citizen discount.
But some members say that $1 hike from $4 to $5, set to occur in July, is really essential to the future of the authority.
