'Fans' Take Trash Talk To Wikipedia

Yankees, Phillies' Pages Vandalized

PHILADELPHIA - Tired of trash talking face-to-face, New Yorkers and Philadelphians are taking their back-and-forth to the popular, free online encyclopedia site.

Take, for example, the following changes to the page of Yankees' World Series game two starter, A.J. Burnett. Someone trying to read up on the 32-year-old right-hander might have been surprised earlier to find his name altered from "Allan James" to "Adolph Jesus."

Edited into and then back out of his page multiple times has been the following remark about the upcoming game: "Burnett is about to get pasted by the Phillies in Game 2 of the 2009 World Series."

And then there was this subsequent variation: "Burnett is currently waiting to be humiliated tonight by the Philadelphia Phillies."

MyFoxPhilly.com reviews of Wikipedia histories and changes show the pages for Yankees stars Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter have escaped relatively unscathed, but some spelling wizard changed manager Joe Girardi from throwing right-handed to "throws=yankess suck."

There have been vandalism incidents on several Phillies' pages. Some especially egregious remarks about sexual orientation this week were placed on Ryan Howard's page.

Chase Utley's name was changed to "Butley" and another word more derogatory term in the aftermath of the Phillies' dominant game one victory.

And Philly's game two starter, Pedro Martinez, had his name altered, as well.

A series of edits to Phillies ace Cliff Lee's page were made during Wednesday night's game, too, injecting a fake quote from Yankees owner George Steinbrenner comparing the pitcher's handling of New York's lineup to a violent sex act. Each remark was quickly purged.

Eventually the poster did make a truthful statement, tacking onto the end of another fake quote, "JUST LEAVE IT I WONT GIVE UP I DONT HAVE A LIFE ."
