Slideshow: Some Fan Celebrations Turn Rowdy
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey was wearing a riot gear helmet with visor up said on the street early Thursday, "I don't have any numbers in terms of arrests now, but it's been minimal. For the most part the celebration's been good."
Fox 29 News cameras did capture a few of the disorderly conduct arrests during the main gatherings at Broad and Shunk streets in South Philadelphia and the Five Points intersection in Mayfair.
Some managed to climb traffic poles that were supposed to be greased to prevent such actions. One man climbing a tree was soon targeted by another person firing off Roman candles, trying to knock him down . Another was pelted with beer cups while atop a traffic light pole .
There were also some broken windows around town as well as injuries.
One of the fans who jumped on top of a red Victory taxi near the stadium, his tossing and turning began long before bedtime when he was tossed off the top of the cab as it took off from a stop light on Broad Street, very close to the ballpark.
SkyFox was overhead as police in the process of clearing one intersection chased down and arrested a man who had been standing atop a police cruiser .
But it was nothing like last year's World Series celebration, which became in some areas a parade of destruction and looting up Broad Street.
By the time "Good Day Philadelphia" came on at 5 a.m., Citizens Bank Park was finally dark and empty and the streets around South Philadelphia were clear, after the spontaneous crowds that gathered finally went home and went to sleep – we think.
There was not, however, a lot of time to get roads ready for the morning rush hour. At Frankford and Cottman, crews had to sweep up empty beer cans and broken glass due to the celebrations there.
