PHILADELPHIA - If Andy Reid is serious about making a trade before late Tuesday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles don’t have a lot of trade options.
Here is a look at what the Eagles could do, with an emphasis of linebacker (incoming) and receiver (outgoing).
Eagles Trading Chips
1. Michael Vick.
There are teams who need quarterback help, starting with Miami and Seattle. And Washington. And Buffalo.
The problem is that Vick is set to make $5 million next year, since he signed a two-year deal.
2. Kevin Curtis
Fox’s Jay Glazer says several teams have already contacted the Eagles about the veteran receiver. Rookie Jeremy Maclin and veteran Jason Avant have moved ahead of Curtis, who is bothered by some injuries but could help a few teams in the league.
3. Reggie Brown
The Eagles had no takers for Brown after training camp.
4. Draft picks
This is the most-likely scenario for the Eagles, who already have a lot of young players and may not have room for all of next year’s draft class.
Eagles Trading Targets
1. Terrell Owens. A zero percent chance.
2.
Shawne Merriman
The former All-pro for the Chargers is rumored to be on the block, but he plays in the 3-4 defense and has been plagued by injuries.
3. Kamerion Wimbley.
The former first round pick for the Browns is looking like a bust, and he also plays linebacker in a 3-4 system.
4. Derrick Johnson
Another semi-flop for the Chiefs, Johnson did much better in the 4-3 defense for Kansas City. He is now a speed linebacker trapped at inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.
5. Barrett Ruud
The Tampa middle linebacker is a tackling machine but is also better in the Tampa 2 defense. Still, he would be a big upgrade for the Eagles and would probably command a high draft pick.
