5 Players Eagles Could Trade For
Warpaint Illustrated said Kansas City general manager Scott
Pioli got calls from the Eagles, the Detroit Lions and Miami
Dolphins inquired about Johnson, who is in the Kansas City
doghouse.
Johnson was benched by coach Todd Haley but played last
weekend as the Chiefs showcased Johnson for a trade.
Johnson, 26, is athletic and a former 2005 first-round pick
out of Texas. He can also play all three linebacker positions and
is a skilled pass rusher.
But Johnson fell short of high expectations in Kansas City
and he could be available for a draft pick and/or a veteran player
like Kevin Curtis or Reggie Brown.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said on Monday he
may make a trade before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, which would be a
first during his Eagles' career.
Reid mentioned trade talk at a press conference and on a talk show with 610WIP's Howard Eskin..
"We are keeping our eyes open." Reid said. "We are looking."
It was unusual comment from Reid, who has never commented about the trade deadline in recent years. And the Eagles have not made a major October trade in 10 years.
In fact, the last Eagles trade in recent memory after August was the acquisition of tight end Luther Broughton in 1999 in early September.
The reason for a trade could by a an injury to linebacker Omar Gaither and the slow progress of Jeremiah Trotter.
Gaither is out with a foot sprain and is undergoing more medical tests. Trotter has not been strong in his comeback from retirement, and the Eagles only have rookie Moise Fokou as a backup.
Reid said on Monday the team would not seek veteran offensive line help but he also would not commit to Todd Herremans playing against Washington. He also would not commit to playing Stacy Andrews more.
The Eagles will be playing a desperate Redskins team with a
tough defensive line.
