In no uncertain terms, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid says Donovan McNabb will start for the Eagles in 2010.
“Yes. That is what I’m saying now,” Reid said when asked if McNabb would be the team’s starter. “That is my call.”
But Reid would not comment when asked by reporters if McNabb would get a contract extension beyond 2010.
Reid also confirmed he talked with Brian Westbrook on Sunday about his future with the Eagles, but he would not elaborate on the discussion.
However, reporters had the Monday press conference peppered Reid constantly with questions about McNabb.
“We like McNabb, we like Kevin (Kolb) and we like Michael Vick,” he said.
Reid then repeated that McNabb was the quarterback.
“I think he is a great player. His work over the past 11 years has proven that,” Reid said.
The Eagles coach said the team was “obviously disappointed” in the playoff loss, and that the organization was focused on getting better.
“It is my responsibility that the Eagles back to that level,” Reid said.
Reid was optimistic about his young players and that some veterans could help the Eagles win a championship.
“We have plenty of good players and coaches, where we should have gotten this thing done in the past two weeks,” Reid said.
In a lighter moment, Reid said he didn't know what Twitter was when asked about DeSean Jackson's messages on the online service.
"I'm not sure I know what a Tweet is," Reid said.
