Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Andy Reid said his team needs a “tremendous amount” of improvement and confirmed the Eagles offered Steve Spagnuolo a job.
“I appreciate your patience for the past few weeks,” Reid said about his delayed press conference.
Reid said he needed the evaluate his own performance as coach over the past season
“We have a tremendous amount of room to improve,” Reid said, and reiterated that the defense needs to improve the most.
“Juan will remain at the defensive coordinator,” Reid said about Juan Castillo.
Reid confirmed he offered Steve Spagnuolo a job with the Eagles but he never discussed a job title with Spagnuolo. The former Eagles coach took the defensive coordinator job in New Orleans.
Reid also said Todd Bowles will bring a lot of experience to the team as a defense coach and Bowles wanted to return to Philadelphia, where he played college football.
He said Bill Parcells recommended Bowles to the Eagles.
“We won the last four games but it wasn’t good enough, the bottom line is we have got to do better,” Reid said.
Reid also said he evaluated the entire defense and didn’t have a job title in mind for Castillo if Spagnuolo came on board.
He said he talked to Castillo during the past month as he evaluated the team, but a job change was never discussed.
