New-Look Eagles Get Landmark Win

Donovan McNabb was the star of the Philadelphia Eagles' big 40-17 win over the New York Giants, but the victory marked an important milestone for the new nucleus of the Eagles.

Offensive tackle Winston Justice played well against the team that almost ended his NFL career. Tackle Jason Peters opened huge holes for the running game.

Young receivers DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Brent Celek had touchdown catches and running back LeSean McCoy ran for a 66-yard touchdown.

Veterans Will Witherspoon and Sean Jones stepped up with big games for a young but veteran defense.

In all, the Eagles only had two starters – McNabb and Sheldon Brown – who played for the team in Super Bowl XXXX against the New England Patriots.

But it was a big day for rising young stars like linebacker Akeem Jordan, who had a team-high 9 tackles, and Jones, who had 5 solo tackles and has a lock on Brian Dawkins' old job at free safety.

Even Jason Babin, subbing for Victor Abiamiri, had a big game on defense.

At times, it seemed that the younger Eagles team just overpowered a veteran Giants team that couldn't get a consistent pass rush on McNabb.

The return of five-year veteran Todd Herremans sured up a gigantic offensive line that that averaged 7.5 yards per carry against New York.
