Capt. Michael Vangelo told the Easton Express Times that Matthew Clemmens, 21, of Cherry Hill, N.J., lost it in more ways than one at last Wednesday's Phillies game. Vangelo is on the Easton, Pa., police force.
Vangelo said Clemmens was irate after he came back to his seat after his companions were apparently ejected from the game for rowdy behavior.
Vangelo said Clemmens, who he described as 6 feet 2 inches and 250 pounds, targeted his 11-year-old daughter for retribution.
"He's sitting there spitting between his legs, and works up from that to spitting on my daughter's chair to spitting on my 11-year-old's hood," Vangelo said.
Next, Vangelo said Clemmens stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited in his family's direction.
"A group of other fans are able to come over right next to me. About five of us knock this guy down and hold him. As we're holding him, he's vomiting on these other fans -- on their shoes, on their pants. It was disgusting," Vangelo said.
The Phillies have already made arrangement for Vangelo's family to see another game at the stadium.
Fox 29 has gone to Clemmens' home twice. On Friday, Clemmens had not returned after being freed on bail.
On Sunday, a sign was posted on his house that said, "no comment."
Clemmens was arraigned early Friday morning on charges stemming from the incident during Wednesday night's Phillies-Nationals game.
Clemmens faces charges including aggravated assault, resisting arrest and harassment.
Our station also on Friday spoke to Clemmen's uncle, Mike Clemmens who defended his nephew, "He might have had a few beers, and got sick and basically he put his hand over his mouth and accidentally puked on the wrong individual."
A phone number for Clemmens was disconnected Friday morning.
