Michael Vick may be an Eagle, but a green No. 7 jersey may be hard to come by in some places.
That's because Dick's Sporting Goods will not be stocking or selling them.
A spokesperson for the sporting goods retailer announced that the chain won't carry the Vick jerseys until it "evaluates the reaction of Eagle fans," Fox 29's Nefertiti Jaquez reported from outside the Dick's in Cherry Hill on Thursday morning.
Of course, the former Atlanta Falcons star quarterback was released from federal prison in May after serving 18 months for that dogfighting conviction.
One week ago, the Eagles signed him to a one-year contract with a club option for a second year.
And that signing has polarized the Eagles' fans and triggered a storm of controversy across the Delaware Valley and across the country.
That was enough, folks said at Dick's, to make them not want to sell the jersey.
Eagles fans Fox 29 spoke to at other stores had a mixed reaction.
Nicolas Stettler, who is boycotting the Eagles, said, "I know he paid his due, he went to jail and he's paid his due to society. I just can't be a fan for somebody like that. And I was an Eagles fan. Not this year. This year I'm abandoning because of that."
Another shopper, Nathaniel Jones, said, "I'm an Eagles fan, so it doesn't matter to me who's on the team. I'm not against anyone that's on the fan. Being an Eagles fan, I wouldn't mind buying a Vick jersey."
Other stores are selling the jerseys, including the franchise, the NFL Web site, Modell's Sporting Goods in the Delaware Valley.
But, as for Dick's, they said they don't have a high demand for it and, unless people start really complaining about the fact that there are no Vick jerseys at their stores, they're not going to sell them, Jaquez reported.
