A white Philadelphia police officer is coming under fire for wearing cornrows to work.
Officer Thomas Strain was taken off the street earlier this month and put on "desk duty" because of his hair style. Attorney Amy Feldman told "Good Day," it all comes down to whether Strain was making a joke or racial statement or whether cornrows are his true hair preference.
Feldman explained that dress codes in the workplace are legal. She said federal courts have given police departments "a wide berth to determine what should and what should not be prevented" when it comes to hair and dress.
Feldman also discussed the case of an Arizona couple who is suing Walmart after an employees turned over photos of their young children naked in the bathtub to police. Feldman said while public reaction to this case is "this is crazy," she said this is why consumers need to review a company's privacy policy. Feldman pointed out it's better to error on the side of caution, just in case something bad is actually going on.
