Dr. Taylor: Hair Removal Tips

It's a problem a lot of women have to deal with, hair removal.

Dermatologist, Dr. Susan Taylor, demonstrated some hair removal techniques that she says are safe and work.

Dr. Taylor explained if you prefer to shave there are a couple of tricks to avoid in-grown hairs. Shaving cream helps soften and moisten hair. She always suggests shaving "in a downward fashion." Pucking can lead to in-grown hairs and razor bumps. "You do want to use a sharp blade, so change it frequently."

You can also use a depilatory to remove hair. It works by actually dissolving hair. Dr. Taylor says to remove the cream with a "wet, soft cloth." "The trick is there's some people who are allergic or sensitive to the chemical. So if you get redness, itching, irritation, or burning, you're not going to use it."

Dr. Taylor demonstrated a new home hair laser removal system that is new on the market. They cost close to $600. You can use these systems on any part of the body except the face. Results appear within about two months. Some products are not good for dark skinned women. Dr. Taylor says the home systems have a test mechanism that will tell you if it will work well on your skin type.
