With students heading back to school, a lot of parents are looking for creative ideas for school lunches.
Melissa Cassera shared some ideas on "Good Day." She said the USDA recommends feeding children about 1,800 calories a day.
Cassera said hiding things in whole wheat wraps works well to keep lunches healthy. Cassera likes chicken with hummus and spinach.
Many children love tex-mex. A lunch with a tortilla, smashed beans and colorful peppers can really hit the spot. A side of yogurt with fresh fruit is a nice addition.
Cassera said children enjoy chicken strips with a variety of dipping sauces. Cold pizza on a whole wheat pita is also scrumptious.
If your children like fruit, Cassera suggests making fruit kabobs on straws.
Cassera said parents can keep lunches healthy by focusing on whole grains, fruits, veggies, proteins, and calcium.
