Columnist: Votes 'Victory' For Christie

Teachers Willing To Take Cuts, Edelstein Says

PHILADELPHIA - The voters have spoken in New Jersey, overwhelmingly rejecting hundreds of school budgets throughout the state.

Jeff Edelstein is a columnist for "The Trentonian." He told Mike and Sheinelle "most of the teachers are human beings who live in the state, and they understand that everyone has got to contribute a little bit."

Tuesday's vote was a huge victory for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The governor asked voters to reject school budgets where the teachers are refusing his call for a wage freeze. Edelstein says the message from Governor Christie is "I don't need you."

Edelstein says "when this is all said and done, teachers and the state, Chris Christie is going to come out smelling like a rose for two or three years. "When the economy picks up a little bit, and now instead of having to take everything away, he can start giving back."
