Vince Fumo Prison Update

It's been six-weeks since former Pennsylvania State Senator Vince Fumo reported to prison.

Fox-29's Dave Schratwieser has learned that the convicted lawmaker is settling in to life behind bars just fine.

Former Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Ralph Cipriano is writing a book about the fallen Senator and has been in touch by phone and mail.

Cipriano explained on Fox-29,  "He sounded good, he said his moniker down there, I guess every inmate has a nickname, his is  "The Senator."  But he seemed good, he seemed optimistic, he seemed in good spirits, he said i'm gonna do what I gotta do. I was impressed by his optimistic attitude."

"Just put your mind in that place to know you're going to do your time and not cause any problems. what's his living arrangements, dormitory situation, it sounds as prison going to be okay. Now he's working too, working as an orderly as I understand it."

Cipriano said Fumo is earning 12-cents an hour working as an orderly. He has $290 a month to spend in the commissary. Cipriano said Fumo seems at peace. "I'm surprised, i heard a note of peacefulness I've never heard, the pressure is off the guy in one sense and I think it will do him good to be away from philadelphia and the whole eye of of the storm thing he was in for so long."

Fumo is also spending some time with Milton Street. The former Mayor's brother is doing time for tax evasion. Fumo has been sentenced to just over four years in prison for defrauding taxpayers and obstruction of justice.
