The Delaware River Port Authority has been pushed to change its business practices as a result of recent reports that uncovered it's wasteful spending, costly perks and rampant cronyism.
Governors Christie and Rendell suggested the DRPA pass key 18 reforms. The DRPA’s board says it is addressing those suggested reforms. The commissioners agreed to make their records open to the public and they have decided to have two board meetings per month.
Some of the changes include elimination of free E-Z Pass, fare perks and car allowances to employees. Employees can no longer do political work on the side. Four positions have been eliminated.
This does sound like progress, but have they gone far enough?
New Jersey Assemblyman Dominick DiCicco is one lawmaker who says the board is wasting time and money on pointless resolutions.
He joined Jeff Cole on the Fox 29 News at 5.
Check out the interview.
Also happening at 6:30 this evening, the DRPA will hold its first nighttime meeting in Philadelphia. On the agenda: 2 resolutions that could solidify the job of the DRPA’s CEO John Matheussen.
One resolution will give him a 5-year contract. The second would trim the CEO’s salary down to $175,000.
The sponsor of these resolutions is none other that board member John Dougherty.
Tune into Fox 29 News at 10 tonight to see how this meeting, which has the potential to get very heated, unfolds.
