'American Idol' Auditions Continue in San Diego

(EndPlay Staff Reports) - Fans got an extra dose of "American Idol" Sunday night after the NFC Championship and things started off with a bang.

The episode kicked off with auditions in an interesting locale: On board the USS Midway in San Diego's harbor. The first audition may have been the episode's most memorable: Jennifer Biley performed Jessica Simpson and Mariah Carey songs for judges wearing a patriotic string bikini, shiny blue hot pants and sky-high stilettos. Judge Steven Tyler said her voice "lacked the fire her outfit has" and, as Ryan Seacrest put it, "San Diego starts with a bust."

Here are some highlights from the rest of the episode:

Single mom Ashley Robles wowed judges with her version of Whitney Houston's "I will Always Love You," and the judges loved her. Jackson said this is how auditions are done. She received a golden ticket, and we will see her again in Hollywood.

Judge Jennifer Lopez was seriously impressed by 20-year-old Audrey Dieckmeyer's performance of Michael Buble's "Feeling Good." Judge Randy Jackson was also impress and pointed out her natural talent. Tyler is also in and said she has natural flavor. Dieckmeyer is on her way to Hollywood with a golden ticket.

Though Ali Shields did not have the strongest voice, she had personality. Jackson said her audition was wild and gave her a golden ticket for her confidence.

Funnyman Jim Carrey isn't the only talented one in the family: His daughter Jane Carrey auditioned for "Idol" and captivated judges with her charm. She performed Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About," and all the judges agreed to let her move forward.

In all, more than 50 singers advanced to the next round from the San Diego auditions. Ready for more auditions? "American Idol" returns Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST with a special trip to Aspen, Colo.
