Mexico News: Valley Flight Attendant Murdered

PHOENIX - A Phoenix flight attendant has been found dead in his Hilton hotel room in Mexico City.

Nick Aaronson, a US Airways flight attendant since 2006, was found dead Saturday morning. He had been in Mexico City on a layover.

The cause of his death is under investigation, but news outlets in Mexico are reporting that Aaronson may have been murdered.

Authorities in Mexico told news agencies there that Aaronson was found tied up, and his luggage was dumped all over his hotel room.

Those agencies said it appeared that Aaronson was strangled.

It is not believed that there is any risk to other members of the flight crew, but they have been moved to another hotel as a precaution.

“We don't know a lot,” Deborah Volopek, of the Flight Attendants Union, told Fox 10 by phone Saturday night.

“What our focus is right now is caring for our co-workers, who all know Nick,” Volopek said.

Fellow flight attendants say he loved his job and was a pleasure to work with.

“He is a very loved, a very popular flight attendant. His loss is a very heavy loss for us. And so we are caring for each other at this point,” Volopek said.

US Airways expressed its condolences to Aaronson’s family and friends, but because it is still an ongoing investigation, the airline isn't commenting.

According to Aaronson’s LinkedIn page, he studied communications at Rio Salado College.
