Chuck Norris Reveals Santorum's 2008 Support for Romney Drove Endorsement Snub

(NewsCore) - A month after endorsing Newt Gingrich to become the GOP presidential candidate, Chuck Norris revealed Sunday that a 2008 campaign statement by Rick Santorum was among the reasons the action film hero chose not to support the former Pennsylvania senator for the 2012 nomination.

Norris, in a column for conservative news website WND.com, said that when he was trying to get former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee elected in the last campaign, Santorum was backing Mitt Romney.

"Just three years ago ... Santorum emphatically told millions of listening Americans, 'If you're a conservative, if you're a Republican, there is only one place to go, and that's Mitt Romney,'" Norris wrote.

"Why an alleged conservative like Santorum would fight for the flip-flopping Massachusetts moderate on the presidential campaign trail, especially in light of the fact that Huckabee and even [Arizona Sen. John] McCain were running then with a much clearer conservative record, I will never know."

He added, "Santorum now admits that Romney 'bragged he's even more liberal than Ted Kennedy on social issues.' And the question that keeps coming to my mind now is this: How can the 'alternative to Romney' also be a Romney supporter?"

Norris praised Santorum -- who, like former House Speaker Gingrich, is trying to win over social conservatives as the alternative choice to former Massachusetts Gov. Romney -- as being a "good Christian."

But Norris added that beyond having supported Romney, Santorum had "a slew of problems with what he did while serving in the US Senate."
