PHOENIX - A US Airways flight attendant based in Phoenix was found dead in a Mexico City hotel room while on a layover, and authorities have reportedly arrested a suspect in connection with his killing.

A flight attendants union said the body of Nick Aaronson, 33, was found early Saturday in his room at a downtown Hilton.

Aaronson's mom, Anita Aaronson, posted on her Facebook page Sunday night that a suspect has been arrested.

Her posting said, “The FBI called Jason at 2:30 a.m. and told him they have arrested Nicks killer."

"Jason has just left for the flight to Mexico City to bring his brother home, he will return on Tuesday passing through Phoenix, I dont know the time of the arrival in Phoenix, but Im sure you can all find out," she wrote later on her page.

The Mexico City prosecutor's office said Nick Aaronson was found naked on the floor, his hands tied behind his back with a cloth.

He showed signs of beating and choking.

Prosecutors said no drugs, weapons or messages were found in the room.

Police were checking security cameras, and an autopsy was planned.

“We don't know a lot,” Deborah Volopek, of the Flight Attendants Union, told FOX 10 by phone Saturday night.

“What our focus is right now is caring for our co-workers, who all know Nick,” Volopek said Saturday.

Fellow flight attendants say he loved his job and was a pleasure to work with.

“He is a very loved, a very popular flight attendant. His loss is a very heavy loss for us. And so we are caring for each other at this point,” Volopek said Saturday.

A statement on the union's website says there doesn't appear to be a safety breach at the hotel but that crews will stay elsewhere temporarily while on layovers.
