(NewsCore) - A Kazakhstan zoo resorted to giving its monkeys red wine to help them survive the cold weather.
Each primate in the Karagandy zoo is being given a daily tipple of French wine, as outside temperatures in the northern city reach as low as minus 27 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 33 degrees Celsius).
The monkeys take 50 grams of the alcohol with hot water, sliced apples, lemon and sugar, Tengri News reported.
Svetlana Pilyuk, deputy director of the zoo, said, "They always get to drink something relaxing when it's cold or when they're being transferred to another zoo or from summer to winter cages."
Pilyuk added, "In the wild, primates also consume alcohol-containing plants that disinhibit their nerve system and give them some release."
