(NewsCore) - American Melanie Oudin, who made a surprising run to last year's quarterfinals, was eliminated from the US Open Wednesday in the second round by Ukraine's Alona Bondarenko.

Bondarenko, the 29th seed, advanced 6-2 7-5 and will now meet sixth-seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone in the third round in Flushing, New York.

Schiavone, the French Open champion, advanced Wednesday with a 6-2 6-1 win over fellow Italian Marie Elena Camerin.

The 18-year-old Oudin advanced to last year's quarterfinals with upsets over higher seeds Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova.

But Oudin has struggled this year, failing to move past the second round of any Grand Slam event.
