Fox 29 medical contributor Dr. Mike Cirigliano says the new alcohol-caffeine drink Four Loko may case problems because of the combination of the two substances.
Four Loko was recently banned at one New Jersey college because it has the alcohol level of four drinks, as well as the equivalent of two cups of coffee, in one container.
“This is nothing really news,” says Cirigliano. “We have seen Red Bull mixed with vodka, it is a very common thing.”
“The combination of caffeine and alcohol is a nightmare just waiting to happen,” he says. ‘No one should combine these.”
He thinks the FDA was evaluate the problem because he believes people may drink more, and the combination could affect people with heart problems.
He also says the packaging of the product looks like a fruit soda and he worried that younger drinkers may be attracted to the drink.
