Actor Michael Douglas has announced he has stage-four throat cancer.
He has acknowledged that years of heavy smoking and drinking may have caused it, but there are also now some reports of other causes.
Dr. Mike Cirigliano visited "Good Day" Friday to break down for us why oropharyngeal cancer is on the rise.
He said this cancer may involve the base of the tongue, tonsils and surrounding tissues, and the major increase in cases may be due to widespread oral sex and transmission of the human papillomavirus.
Symptoms of oropharyngeal cancer include:
Bleeding in the mouth
Lump in throat
