As sports get more intense for children, it's important to make sure you child is in the best of health before starting the season.
Dr. Mike explained on "Good Day," getting some baseline tests are a good idea. With more students playing contact sports a baseline concussion test is important. Dr. Mike said concussions can be a problem later in life. "They can cause depression and even dementia if you have had a concussion in the past."
A thorough cardiac exam can also save a child's life. Doctor Mike said doctors need to really listen for murmurs or rhythm disturbances. A doctor also needs to know about a family history of heart disease.
