Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is recovering at Jefferson University Hospital after suffering a mild stroke on Tuesday.
Dr. Mike explained on "Good Day" a stroke is "kind of like a heart attack of the brain."
There are different types of strokes. Dr. Mike suspects Beau Biden had an embolic stroke. This means that a clot occurs. Other kinds of strokes involve a bleed. Embolic strokes are the most common in people under 45 years old.
Dr. Mike says Biden's doctors are now trying to determine what caused the stroke. "Does the blood in his body clot too easily?" The other possibility could be problems with the heart. "Was there a hole in the heart?" Dr. Mike says Biden will undergo an eco-cardiogram, mri's, and catscans to pinpoint exactly what happened.
Dr. Mike showed samples of a real brain from someone who died from a stroke. He pointed out the dark area where the tissue died because of a stroke.
It is critical to get to the hospital right away for treatment because the brain tissue starts to die after a stroke.
