Pediatricians need to begin screening children for obesity at the age of 6, according to a government task force.
Dr. Mike discussed the findings of the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force on "Good Day."
About one-third of children in the United States are overweight. One in five of those children are obese. Dr. Mike says behavioral modification is needed to help overweight children along with regular exercise.
Dr. Mike also says "kids and parents need to learn to eat right and exercise from day one." Dr. Mike predicts "this may be the first generation that doesn't live as long as their parents."
Dr. Mike also discussed a new FDA study on the dangers of BPA's in plastic containers. Past studies have found a link between BPA's and heart disease and some types of cancer. Dr. Mike recommends avoiding these plastics now instead of waiting for the study results.
