Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. had a little trick up his sleeve as he stop by for a brief chat with "Good Day's" Jennaphr Frederick on Friday morning.
Amaro, who broke news earlier this week on Fox 29 News by announcing that closer Brad Lidge had a rotator cuff injury, decided to try to to give us another "exclusive."
"Let me just make this announcement: We have decided to put Chase Utley on the active list, and he's going to play today," Amaro said.
The general manager had JennFred going for a minute, but not "Good Day" anchor Mike Jerrick, who immediately blurted out "April Fool!"
The episode didn't phase Jenn from asking for a personal audience with Phillies catcher Carlos "Chooch" Ruiz, for whom she frequently stalks by holding up a sign that reads "Chooch Give Me A Smooch" sign.
"Well, clearly he's been a very important part of our club. Our pitchers love throwing to him. He's matured in a way that's pretty special for us and grown with our staff – not just our staff on the field, but our coaching staff as well. … And if you don't have a very good battery, man, it's tough to win games. He's been outstanding."
Amaro said he wasn't concerned with the snow that was falling Friday morning.
He also wasn't worried about the flakes hampering starting pitcher Roy Halladay.
"He doesn't get affected by too many thing," Amaro said. "He's pretty wired in and locked in and doesn't let those outside elements affect him too much."
