White Sox Pitcher John Danks Goes Bald for St. Baldrick's

Posted:

We are ever-so-close to shave day as part our St. Baldrick’s FOX Chicago Schools Challenge. We're working with more than 1,500 kids from 50 schools throughout the area to raise awareness and money in the fight against kids’ cancer.

Once again the White Sox are partners with us in this effort.

So it was off the spring training at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz. and hope reigns supreme -- hope for another World Series ring and hope to find a cure for kids’ cancer.

There's something about spring training that is so special. It's a time when anything seems possible and with our guy, pitcher John Danks, batting leadoff it's time to be brave and go bald.

Danks brought in the big gun to help: Mr. No-No Mark Buehrle himself, who's quick to have some fun at his buddy's expense.

All joking aside it's go time, and with Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams looking on, true to form Buehrle works fast.

In no time, Mr. Perfect has executed a haircut any mother would love.

For Danks, his commitment to Baldrick’s is family affair. He has a little cousin, Cooper, who is fighting cancer and winning.

But for every Cooper, John knows there are other kids who aren't as fortunate, so he'll keep working to raise awareness.

For every student who follows Danks' lead and shaves their head as part of our St. Baldrick’s FOX Chicago Schools Challenge, the White Sox are giving two free tickets to a game this season.

We've raised $3.5 million over the last several years and that's money that goes to hospitals here in our area. Help out in 2011!
