Chicago's Most Wanted Bank Larceny Suspect

Posted:

FBI agents are on the hunt for a man who pulled off an unbelievable bank heist on the city's south side.

In a matter of minutes, FBI agents say a man walked in to a southside bank and walked out with 100 thousand dollars.

The FBI's Ross Rice says, "This is the first time and the only time we've seen a scenario like this employed in the Chicago area."

Investigators say it all played out at a TCF bank in Jewel Food story near 95th and Stony Island in October of 2008.

While the pay off seems to have happened pretty easily, it was actually the result of a complicated plan. Agents say a female bank teller received a call at work from an individual that claimed to be a member of the TCF corporate security unit. The employee told investigators she didnt question the phone call because the caller knew a great deal about bank operations.

The caller reportedly told the teller that she would lose her job if she failed to perform a "swap out" in 15 minutes. That's when another security employee would be there to pick up the money. So as instructed, the teller told police she went to the bank vault, took out 100 thousand dollars and gave it to this man when he walked in to the bank just minutes later.

Rice says, "Apparently the teller thought she was going to be giving up a sum of money and was going to be given an equal sum of money in different bills in exchange." But there was no even exchange and agents say the man just took the envelope and walked out of the door. The crook neither showed nor implied any kind of weapon. That's why this case is considered a bank larceny and not a bank robbery.

No one has seen the suspect since he walked out of the bank fifteen months ago. That's why investigators want you to take a good look at these photographs. Its all they really have to go on.

What they do know is he is described as a black male, in his 50's, with a stocky build, wearing a black trench coat, gray suit, pink shirt, a black fedora and has an earring.

If you see him, call police.
