When the Sherwin Williams Credit Union in Harvey was robbed on October 7th, FBI agents say it started out in a very different way.
The FBI's Ross Rice says, "The three robbers waited for one of the senior bank employees to leave her house. She lived in nearby Lansing." The woman had just pulled out of her driveway to head to work when a white S-U-V cut her off. Agents say three men were inside and two of them got out brandishing handguns and wearing halloween type skeleton masks. Investigators say the men then forced the female employee out of her car at gunpoint, handcuffed her and threw her in the back of her vechicle. Investigators say both cars then drove to the Sherwin Williams Credit Union in Harvey.
Once inside, two of the masked men forced the female employee to open the vault. Rice says, "They then went right for a Brinks Armored Car delivery that had been made late the previous day. So it tells us they put in a great deal of planning and research to committing this crime."
The two masked men tied up and gagged the female worker and took off in her car, which they ditched a few blocks away. That's where agents say the third robber was waiting in another car.
Rice adds, "We dont have any solid suspects at this point. Its an unsolved case that we certainly need the public's help in trying to solve."
Since these robbers were so well disguised, all agents really know about them is all three are african american. So how can you help? By telling investigators NOT what you've seen but what you've heard. They say when a crime like this is successfully pulled off, the people that do it, usually like to talk about it, possibly to impress their friends or family.
If you do know anything about these three robbers, you should also know police say they armed and dangerous.
The FBI and the credit union are offering a ten-thousand dollar reward for any information leading to the arrest of these suspects. Call the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
