A construction worker's dump truck was hauled away for parking illegally. The sign may say $150, but the tower wanted a lot more and the problems didn't stop there!
Contractor Felix Morina is ticked off. First his dump truck got towed from this parking lot on the main line, then when he went to retrieve it from this private tow yard in Philadelphia, he was shocked by the towing fee.
Morina says when he heard the cost, he called Lower Merion police who told him the tow company could only charge the rate posted where he was towed. That ranges from $175 to $395. With the help of police, Morina got the towing company to lower the price to $200, but when he went to pick up his truck he found a whole lot of damage. So he called fox 29.
Morina says, his license plate was also sheared off and the parking brake disconnected. Even more troubling, the brake line for the 25,000 pound truck had been broken.
We went to the towing company where this guy first told us they didn't tow Morina's truck and he didn't know what we were talking about.
Later off camera, Mike Williams admitted he was the owner. Said he refunded the towing fee to Morina, offered to make repairs without accepting blame and even towed the truck to Morina's mechanic for free so he could get it fixed. Morina says there's a valuable lesson to be learned here.
The tow company owner say he will take a look at the repair bill for Morina's truck and if it's reasonable he'll take care of it. He insists he never told or gave Morina a towing cost of $650. Morina's truck is now being repaired. We'll let you know if that bill gets paid.
