Philly Cop Injured in Crash with 90-Year-Old Driver

PHILADELPHIA -

A Philadelphia police officer assigned to the 2nd District was briefly knocked unconscious and hospitalized along with a 90-year-old woman after their vehicles collided near Longshore and Oxford avenues while the officer was responding to a call Saturday.

According to police, the elderly woman had ran a red light while driving east on Longshore Avenue and struck the officer's vehicle as he was responding to a call for loud music in the area.

The officer was knocked unconscious in the crash and rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he regained consciousness and was able to move his arms and legs, according to police. The officer was listed in stable condition Saturday afternoon.

The elderly driver was taken to Jeanes Hospital with neck pain.

The crash remained under investigation Saturday afternoon.
